Lifesaving

Preventing drowning and injury at Wellington City beaches

Proactive’, the key word that makes Surf Life Saving unique, as an essential service. Surf Life Saving is not a reactive rescue service activated by call outs.

We work with Surf Life Saving Wellington to patrol Wellington City beaches by setting out the red and yellow flags to show the safest place to swim and patrolling the harbour andSouth Coast using BP Inflatable Rescue Boats. We train new Lifeguard’s how to identify potential victims and potential dangers. We work with the community to prevent people getting in trouble, first.

To become a Lifeguard, the ‘entry level’ qualification is the Surf Life Saving New Zealand Surf Lifeguard Awarded and be over the age of 14. We’re committed to ongoing learning within Surf Life Saving too, whether you’re 7 or 70. From lifesaving, first aid, coaching and instruction, to leadership, teamwork and communication, our training will stand you in good stead for the rest of your life.

Maranui Surf Life Saving Club is a member of Surf Life Saving Wellington and Surf Life Saving New Zealand. Surf Life Saving is an organization of ordinary New Zealanders doing extraordinary things.
